Kingdom of the Planet Of The Apes

Many years after the reign of Caesar, a young ape goes on a journey that will lead him to question everything he’s been taught about the past and make choices that will define a future for apes and humans alike.
This was a movie that I wasn’t all that hyped for until I first saw the trailer. Even after I saw it I still wasn’t over the moon excited for it I thought it looked cool but nothing too special. So I was a little surprised when I saw that many movie youtubers I follow were incredibly excited for this movie. When I had seen that trailer I hadn’t watched the Caesar trilogy from the 2010’s so I didn’t really understand why the hype was so big for this movie, but after watching those three movies I totally understood. Those movies were awesome! After watching them I couldn’t wait for this movie and now that I have seen it I can say it lived up to my newfound hype.
This movie is simply phenomenal. It is a perfect adventure film filled with a protagonist you actively root for the whole film. It has a great supporting cast of characters and a very cool opening scene. The movie has so many great scenes and moments and director Wes Ball did an incredible job with his directing in the film. There are so many cool shots and scenes filmed so cool and interesting it was just so good. The movie also does a great job worldbuilding. Setting up where the world is hundreds of years after Caesars movies ended. Where the ape are the humans it’s all so interesting.

It’s not a perfect film though. The villain Proximus Caesar is awesome, but also very underused, he doesn’t show up until much later in the film and then although has some great moments just doesn’t really do all that much. Although he remains memorable due to the great performance Kevin Durand gives. Also the use of Caesar’s legacy in this film was a bit weird. First it was very clear what it was trying to do with it and the character of Caesar but by the end of the movie that plot doesn’t really have a satisfying finale and just feels like they kind of forgot about it by the end of the movie.
But even with these problems this remains not only a great planet of the apes movie, but a great sequel, adventure movie, and a movie that definitely deserves all the hype I can give it.
