Superman
When Superman gets drawn into conflicts at home and abroad, his actions are questioned, giving tech billionaire Lex Luthor the opportunity to get the Man of Steel out of the way for good. Will intrepid reporter Lois Lane and Superman’s four-legged companion, Krypto, be able to help him before it’s too late?
James Gunn’s Superman was the movie I had been looking forward to the most this year. As a lifelong comic fan I was extremely excited to see what the new superman would be like espicially after DC got the greatest superhero movie director of all time to make it. As the movie continued developing there were some weird choices being made. The inclusion of other superheros and a lot of interesting set photos had the internet very confused. But I always had faith that James Gunn would deliver. After watching I can safely say the Gunn did not disappoint making the best Superman film since the original
Review: A super reboot for a superman
Superman not only launches a new DC universe but also tells a very complete stand alone story while doing what no other superman movie has been able to do. Create the most relatable, vulnerable, and human, superman we have ever gotten.
From the beginning of the movie the film wastes no time dropping you into a fleshed out and established world, filled with monsters robots and more and distancing itself away from how the MCU started with creating a world around a character. David Corenswet plays the new superman and is incredible in the role and easily my favorite lead performance of the year. Rachel Brosnahan is just as good as lois lane and Nicholus Holt is amazing Lex luthor playing the most hateble version of the character. The film also has standout performances from the supporting cast including edi gathegi nathan fillion and isabela merced as respecitvely Mister Terrifc, Green Lantern, and Hawkgirl. Krypto aka the flying dog is hilarious and is another great addition to the movie the action scenes are amazing and some of the best flying sequences I have ever seen. Action is great with tons of awesome fight sequences and great monologues showing why the character has stayed a big figure in pop culture for so long.
There are some negatives tho. The movies pacing is atrocious with it moving like hundred miles an hour. You’ll be halfway through the movie but expecting it to be the end because of how quickly it all goes. The script is also not great. While the thematics work some of the dialogue is riddle while explanations and sometimes people don’t sound human. Theres also a really dumb subplot involving Jimmy Olson that was just dumb and honestly really lazy.
But despite that Superman proves to be thrilling adventure filled with the most real feeling comic book world we ever gotten with an adaptation of the character showing why he is truly so beloved with great performances awesome villains and a killer soundtrack proving in an era filled with an overabundance of comic book movies why the genre can still be made so relavent in our time.
